Emergency Transportation Routes (ETR) Updates
Regional Disaster Preparedness Organization (RDPO) / Metro
The Regional Disaster Preparedness Organization (RDPO) and Emergency Transportation Routes (ETR) updates project was an important initiative undertaken by RDPO and Metro between 2019 and 2021. The project aimed to enhance the resiliency of the regional transportation network in the face of potential natural disasters, with a specific focus on the potential impacts of a Cascadia Subduction Zone earthquake.
As the Project Manager, Transportation Analyst, and Planner, my primary responsibilities included assisting local jurisdictions in identifying and implementing project phasing and continuity of operations plans. These plans were designed to mitigate short-term and long-term effects on businesses and communities impacted by a significant natural disaster, ensuring the rapid restoration of critical transportation infrastructure.
Throughout the project, our team collaborated with various stakeholders, including local jurisdictions, public agencies, and emergency management organizations. Together, we developed comprehensive strategies for maintaining the functionality of emergency transportation routes and ensuring the rapid deployment of resources in the event of a disaster.
By focusing on resiliency planning and proactive infrastructure improvements, the RDPO Emergency Transportation Routes (ETR) Updates project significantly enhanced the region's ability to respond effectively to natural disasters, safeguarding the well-being of residents and the continuity of essential services.
The successful completion of this project has contributed to the overall preparedness and resilience of the region, ensuring that communities are better equipped to face the challenges posed by natural disasters and protect the lives and livelihoods of residents in the event of a major seismic event such as the Cascadia Subduction Zone earthquake.
